Partner Visas
The Spouse & Civil Partner route allows eligible partners of British citizens, Irish citizens, or individuals who are settled or otherwise eligible to sponsor under the Immigration Rules to live together in the UK. Applicants must satisfy the relevant relationship, financial, accommodation and English language requirements. Depending on the applicant's circumstances, applications may be made from outside or inside the UK. Successful applicants may become eligible for settlement and, subsequently, British citizenship.
Unmarried Partner Visas
The Unmarried Partner route allows eligible couples in a genuine and durable relationship to live together in the UK without being legally married or in a civil partnership. Applicants must demonstrate that their relationship is genuine and subsisting and that they meet the relevant financial, accommodation and English language requirements. Under the current Immigration Rules, there is no longer an absolute requirement to have lived together for two years, provided the couple can demonstrate they have been in a relationship similar to marriage or civil partnership for at least two years and explain why they have not cohabited where relevant.
Fiancé(e) Visas
The Fiancé(e) Visa allows eligible individuals to enter the UK to marry or enter into a civil partnership with a British citizen, Irish citizen or a person who is settled or otherwise eligible to sponsor under the Immigration Rules. Applicants must intend to marry or form a civil partnership within six months of their arrival in the UK and satisfy the relevant relationship, financial, accommodation and English language requirements. A Fiancé(e) Visa does not permit employment or study. Following the marriage or civil partnership, applicants may apply to switch to the Partner route from within the UK.
Parent Visa
The Parent Visa route allows eligible parents to live in the UK in order to take an active role in the upbringing of their child. It is available where the child is living in the UK and is, for example, a British or Irish citizen, settled in the UK, or otherwise meets the relevant requirements under the Immigration Rules. Applicants must normally demonstrate parental responsibility or direct access to the child and show that they intend to continue playing an active role in the child's life. Importantly, where an applicant is eligible to apply as a partner, they are generally expected to apply under the Partner route rather than the Parent route.
Child Visa
The Child Visa route allows eligible children to join or remain with a parent in the UK under the Family route. Eligibility depends on the child's age, immigration status, family circumstances and the immigration status of the sponsoring parent. In most cases, the child must be under 18, not be married or living an independent life, and normally be living with or intending to live with their parent in the UK. Successful applicants may later become eligible for settlement where the relevant requirements are met.
Adult Dependent Relative
The Adult Dependant Relative (ADR) route allows eligible adult relatives to join family members who are living permanently in the UK where, because of age, illness or disability, they require long-term personal care that is not available or affordable in their country of residence. Sponsors must meet the relevant relationship, accommodation and maintenance requirements under the Immigration Rules. Where the requirements are met, applicants sponsored by a British citizen or settled person are generally granted settlement on entry.
