Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), also known as settlement, allows eligible individuals to live, work and study in the UK without any time limit on their stay. It is an important milestone for many migrants and, in most cases, provides a pathway to British citizenship, subject to meeting the relevant statutory requirements. Eligibility depends on the immigration route, qualifying residence period and compliance with the applicable Immigration Rules.

10-Year Long Residence

The 10-Year Long Residence route enables eligible individuals who have completed 10 years of continuous lawful residence in the UK to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). Time spent in the UK under most immigration routes may count towards the qualifying period, provided the relevant continuous residence and eligibility requirements are met. Applicants must also satisfy the English language and Life in the UK Test requirements, unless an exemption applies.

Continuous Residence Assessment

Whether an applicant meets the continuous residence requirement is often one of the most important issues in settlement applications. Different immigration routes are subject to different residence requirements, and the assessment may involve reviewing immigration history, periods of absence from the UK and the applicable Immigration Rules. We provide detailed eligibility assessments before an application is submitted to help identify potential issues at an early stage.

British Citizenship by Naturalisation

British citizenship by naturalisation is the route by which non-British nationals who have lawfully lived in the UK for a qualifying period may apply to become British citizens. This route is commonly used by individuals who hold Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or settled status, and who meet the residence, good character, and language requirements set out under British nationality law. Successful applicants gain the right to live in the UK without immigration restrictions and may apply for a British passport.

British Citizenship by Registration

British citizenship by registration is a route under UK nationality law that allows certain individuals, most commonly children under the age of 18, to apply for British citizenship by entitlement or discretion, rather than by naturalisation. In limited circumstances, registration may also be available to adults under specific statutory provisions.
